GERMAN-AMERICAN BUSINESS COUNCIL OF BOSTON ANNOUNCES NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR AND BOARD OF DIRECTORS ELECTION


BOSTON, Mass., JULY 27, 2018 ̶ The German-American Business Council of Boston, Inc. (GABC) sailed into the summer with Emily Westhoven as the organization’s new Executive Director at the helm and confirmed Bodo Liesenfeld as its President at its most recent Board of Directors’ meeting in June.

Emily Westhoven, who took on her duties as Executive Director in May, comes to this position with extensive knowledge of both the German and American cultures. A native of Germany and a public relations professional by training, she has been living and working in the Boston area since 1996. Following stints at PR agencies, she has been working most recently as representative for Baden-Württemberg International supporting their marketing initiatives in the U.S. She has served many years, including as chair, of the school committee of the German Saturday School Boston, and she is currently an advisor to the Board of Trustees of the German International School Boston.

“At a time when political signals between our countries are confusing and difficult to interpret, providing a platform for businesses and professionals to network, inform and to continue to promote trade becomes more important than ever,” said Bodo Liesenfeld, president of the board of directors of the GABC. “Emily will be tapping into her large network to bring important events to our membership and enhance our visibility in the German-American community.”

During their annual election in June, the GABC board of directors re-elected Bodo Liesenfeld as its president. Liesenfeld had been a board member since 2011 and was voted president for the first time in 2017. Bodo is the CEO of Liesenfeld International, a private investment enterprise, and a former Fellow at the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs at Harvard University. Previously, he was at the helm of a major international air & freight forwarding company, Rohde & Liesenfeld. He is the president of the German Latin America Association and was appointed “HamburgAmbassador”, an honorary role representing and promoting the German city-state in the Northeast of the U.S. He splits his time between his native Hamburg and Boston.
